Cookie Policy
This policy refers to cookies and web pages operated by Pearl Code SRL. If you need more information and it is not found below, you can contact us at the email address lesperles.md@gmail.com.
What are cookies?
A cookie is a small file consisting of letters and numbers that will be stored on your computer, mobile terminal, or other equipment of a user accessing the internet. The cookie is installed by request issued by a web server to a browser (e.g., Internet Explorer, Chrome) and is completely "passive" (it does not contain software programs, viruses, or spyware and cannot access information on the user's hard drive).
- There are two large categories of cookies:
Session cookies – these are temporarily stored in the cookie folder of the web browser for it to remember until the user exits the website or closes the browser window (e.g., when logging in/out of a webmail account or social networks). - Persistent cookies – these are stored on the hard drive of a computer or equipment (and generally depend on the predefined lifespan of the cookie). Persistent cookies include those placed by a website other than the one the user is currently visiting – known as "third-party cookies" – which can be used anonymously to remember a user's interests so that the most relevant advertising can be delivered to users.
What are cookies used for?
These files make it possible to recognize the user's terminal and present the content in a relevant way, tailored to the user's preferences. Cookies ensure users a pleasant browsing experience and support Pearl Code's efforts to provide user-comfortable services, such as online privacy preferences, shopping cart, or relevant advertising. They are also used to prepare anonymous aggregated statistics that help us understand how the user benefits from our web pages, allowing us to improve their structure and content, excluding the user's personal identification.
What types of cookies do we use?
We use two types of cookies: per session and fixed. The latter are temporary files that remain in the user's terminal until the session ends or the application (web browser) is closed. Fixed files remain on the user's terminal for a period specified in the cookie parameters or until manually deleted by the user.
How are cookies used by this site?
A visit to this site can place the following types of cookies (for the following purposes):
- Site performance cookies
- Visitor analysis cookies
- Geo-targeting cookies
- Registration cookies
- Advertising cookies
- Advertising provider cookies
Do cookies contain personal data?
Cookies themselves do not require personal information to be used and, in most cases, do not personally identify internet users. The personal data collected through the use of cookies can only be collected to facilitate certain functionalities for the user. These data are encrypted in a way that makes it impossible for unauthorized persons to access them.
Deleting cookies
Generally, an application used to access web pages allows saving cookies on the terminal by default. These settings can be changed so that the automatic management of cookies is blocked by the web browser or the user is informed every time cookies are sent to their terminal. Detailed information about the possibilities and ways of managing cookies can be found in the settings area of the application (web browser). Limiting the use of cookies can affect certain functionalities of the web page.
Why are cookies important for the Internet?
Cookies represent the central point of the efficient functioning of the Internet, helping to generate a friendly browsing experience and tailored to the preferences and interests of each user. Refusing or disabling cookies can make some sites unusable.
Refusing or disabling cookies does not mean that you will no longer receive online advertising – it just means that it will no longer be able to take into account your preferences and interests highlighted by your browsing behavior.
Important uses of cookies (that do not require user authentication through an account):
- Content and services tailored to user preferences
- categories of products and services.
- Offers tailored to users' interests.
- Password retention.
- Child protection filters regarding content on the Internet (family mode options, safe search functions).
- Limiting the frequency of ad serving – limiting the number of times an ad is displayed for a particular user on a site.
- Providing more relevant advertising for the user.
- Measurement, optimization, and analytics features – such as confirming a certain level of traffic on a website, what type of content is viewed, and how a user arrives on a website (e.g., through search engines, directly, from other websites, etc.). Websites conduct these analyses of their use to improve the sites for the benefit of users.
Security and privacy issues related to cookies
Cookies are NOT viruses! They use plain text formats. They are not made up of code pieces, so they cannot be executed or auto-run. Consequently, they cannot duplicate or replicate on other networks to run or replicate again. Because they cannot perform these functions, they cannot be considered viruses.
Cookies can still be used for negative purposes. Because they store information about users' preferences and browsing history, both on a specific site and across multiple other sites, cookies can be used as a form of Spyware. Many anti-spyware products are aware of this fact and constantly mark cookies for deletion in anti-virus/anti-spyware deletion/scan procedures.
General advice for safe and responsible browsing, based on cookies
Due to their flexibility and the fact that the majority of the most visited and largest sites use cookies, they are almost inevitable. Disabling cookies will not allow the user to access the most widespread and used sites, including YouTube, Gmail, Yahoo, and others.
Here are some tips that can ensure you navigate without worries, but with the help of cookies:
- Customize your browser settings regarding cookies to reflect a comfortable level of security for you when using cookies.
- If you do not mind cookies and you are the only person using the computer (phone, tablet, or any other device), you can set long expiration times for storing your browsing history and personal access data.
- If you share access to the device, you can consider setting the browser to delete individual browsing data each time you close the browser. This is a way to access sites that place cookies and delete any information from the visit at the end of the browsing session.
- Install and constantly update your anti-spyware applications. Many spyware detection and prevention applications include detecting attacks on sites. Thus, they prevent the browser from accessing websites that could exploit browser vulnerabilities or download dangerous software.
- Ensure that your browser is always up-to-date. Many cookie-based attacks are carried out by exploiting the weaknesses of old browser versions.
